NWEA PRACTICE SITE and Study Island

Hello Parents!  There is an AWESOME NWEA test practice site where your child can take practice tests according to their RIT band, which was given at Report Card Pickup.  Please utilize these at home as we will be in school as well.  Also, StudyIsland.com is readily available for students in 2nd grade.  There students can practice with skills they struggle with or have mastered.  Have your child take the practice test and do the assignments that I post for practice.

Our Reading Story This Week is "Because of You." The students will have a vocabulary and comprehension test about this story on Friday. We will read the story multiple times in class and do lots of comprehension, reading strategy lessons, and extension activities in whole and small groups throughout the week. Please have your child read this story aloud to you on Thursday night before the assessment and review all spelling words and vocab definitions. This will be the procedure for Thursday nights before test days.

Also, please have your child do a practice spelling test to review for Friday's spelling test. There will be a spelling pattern or two every week that we work on in class and their spelling words match the weekly patterns.  This week's patterns are Long "i" and "a".

First Week of School

The first week of school is going really well. We are focusing on reading strategies, practicing fluency, reviewing consonants and vowels as well as their sounds, beginning fluency tests, beginning addition and subtraction strategies, and will soon begin the writing process through journaling and writing reader's responses.

Updates:
Gym will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays this year. Please make sure your child wears gym shoes and the RAB gym uniform to school. If they don't have a uniform yet, have them wear a white tee shirt and black shorts or pants until the uniform is purchased.

The only homework this week is the Summer Souvenir project, which came home in your child' yellow folder. This folder is of UTMOST importance in 202. All homework and notes will come home in this folder everyday. Beginning next week, our class will have reading and math homework Monday-Thursday and a Book Report on Friday. The book report can be turned in early.

Students will receive a book report every Friday that will be due the bext Friday. The first quarter will focus on Fictional text and next quarter will focus on Non-fiction.

I look forward to meeting you all at Open House-DETAILS TO COME SOON!

Last Days

Tomorrow is the last FULL DAY for students.  THEY CAN BE OUT OF UNIFORM.  We will be doing a scavenger hunt inside in the morning and will be playing games and having a picnic-like day outside.  Feel free to join us anytime throughout the morning around 9 am.  After lunch we will tie up loose ends in the classroom and I will open our class store for the last time.  Friday is out of uniform as well and students are dismissed at 9:30 am.  Thanks for making this such a great year!  I appreciate all of you and your efforts, and adored your children! There will be a summer packet coming home tomorrow to prepare for third grade.  Have a nice summer!
