Box Tops for Education
A flyer came home last week about collecting Box Tops for Education. These can be found on a variety of products, and 202 is looking to collect the most in the whole school. Please collect, cut, and send them to school with your child in a plastic bag. Please ask family members, co-workers, friends, etc. to get involved in the collection because we can earn some great resources for R.A.B! For more info, go to: http://www.boxtops4education.com/Image.aspx?id=6952 for participating products. They range from Kleeex to cereal, baking products to binders. Thanks for participating!

Social Studies Unit 3- Using Our Resources
We will be starting a new Social Studies unit beginning on January 16th. There are many great resources, games, biographies, etc. that your child can play or read about at http://www.harcourtschool.com/ss1/Grade2/interactives/gr2_unit3.html. This website directly ties to our Social Studies text and everything the students learn in class can be connected to an activity or further reading and research on this site. The games are fun and interactive. I will tell the students about it this week.

Social Studies articles Assignment
There was an assignment given over winter break to read 4 articles and write 4 summaries explaining what the articles were about. List the name of the article and where it came from please. Directions have gone home twice with those students who didn't turn it in. The assignment will not be accepted any later than Friday and this was missing for about 12 students. Social studies grades will drop at least one letter grade without this assignment so if your child did not do this, please encourage them to get it done by Friday. The ones that already came in were AWESOME!

Over Break Update
Happy New Year! I hope everyone has enjoyed the holidays and are well relaxed for the new year. I am excited to start the new year off with some new units in all subjects and continue the journey with this great 2nd grade class.
- I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all of the parents for helping your child create such an AWESOME Hanukkah or Kwanza project. They turned out great and we all learned some new fun facts about those holidays. I plan on doing a project like that every quarter from now on!
- Don't forget to ask your child to complete their reading and math packet and bring it to school on Monday, January 9, 2012 and a book report with a non-fiction article is due by Friday, January 13th. You may use articles from newspapers, magazines, or online sources.
- We will be taking a Social Studies Test on Friday of the upcoming week on Unit 2-The World Around Us (This includes map skills for land and water, landforms, seasons and climate in different regions, using a table, Directions: North, South, East, West, how to find state capitals, continents **We live in North America**, absolute locations, knowing about the equator) Your child can go to http://www.harcourtschool.com/ss1/Grade2/interactives/gr2_unit3.html to play games and review, re-read, and learn more about this unit.
